WHAT DOES SHAVASANA MEAN?
[shaw - VAHS - ahna] literally means corpse posture. That may sound very morbid and even depressing. But have you ever noticed that when you don't pay attention to the things that are most important to you, or value them, that they are suddenly gone? Our life is preciously short and still we forget to honour our time. The final posture in our class is Shavasana, a chance for repose and reflection so as to help remind us how special our time is.
DO I NEED TO BE FLEXIBLE?
This is one of the very common questions we are asked. The answer is no.
Yoga is used to help you improve the way your body feels. If this is to be true it must meet you where you are.
If you are tight and stiff, Yoga will provide you with valuable help.
WILL I LOSE WEIGHT?
This is the loaded question that we always hear. The answer is Yes and No. Weight loss is a great goal to get you motivated, if it is for the right reasons and if it is done in the right way.
Please hear this. Any physical activity will help with weight loss. How fast and how much you can or will lose depends on the frequency, duration, and intensity level of that activity. In our Yoga classes, once you have connected to the sensations of your body and the proper biomechanics of movement, you can engage in a vigorous and challenging experience.
Yoga can make a valuable contribution to your weight loss goals and more than that it can help you feel better about the person who is losing the weight.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE?
The more regularly you practice, the better you will feel.
This does not mean daily 2 -3 hour practice. This means starting with small steps so that the beauty and power of Yoga can grow in your life.
Like planting a seed. Coming to class once a week is a great start that fits into most people's plan. After 2 - 3 times changes start to occur and you notice you are standing taller. Add some home practice for 10 minutes a day and look out, you won't recognize yourself. Years will melt off off you and you get a new spring back in your step.
DO YOU DISCUSS RELIGION IN CLASS?
We are absolutely non-denominational. We believe that inclusivity is the most important feature of our studio.Whether you are have a strong belief in a particular religious tradition or have no belief whatever, what we cover in our classes is intended not conflict with who you are or what you believe. We prefer a curious and observation based approach to a Yoga practice. Ideally what we offer will enrich your life and those you intereact with.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Please refer to our Dress Code on our Fees Page.
WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE INJURIES?
Of course it is important that you discuss your options with a qualified health professional. Private Yoga training can help you find the unique modifications that will allow you to feel good after your practice and get the enjoyment of being with others in a group setting.
It is important that you understand the cause of the injury/pain and limit any potential for causing more harm before attempting to improve anything.
More and more people are finding that having personal time with us allows them to heal the suffering that can sometimes be more distressing that the pain itself.
